Frequently Asked Questions

  1. The number one question for 2008 is What happened to Laurence Simon, the King of the Catbloggers?
Laurence is  fine, but he’s turned Carnival stewardship over to we folks who have the time and energy to keep the merry go round spinning.  As far as we’re concerned, though, Laurence will always be the King of the Catbloggers.

  2. When is the Carnival?
Every Sunday at 6PM Central Time. (aka 7pm Eastern Time, 5pm Mountain Time, 4pm Pacific Time, or use the World Time Converter Here)

  3. What posts are acceptable?
Anything cat-related. This includes pictures, movie clips, poems, tales, and even comments on news stories about cats. As long as you have a permalink to the post where people can get to it, it’s fair game.  Have some taste, or the carnival huckster may not allow your post.

  4. What does RFOAC stand for?
Reasonable Facsimile Of A Cat. That’s anything that isn’t a cat that is shaped like, bears the image of, or bears the damage from a cat.

  5. Where do I send my entries?
Submit your catblogging post using the BlogCarnival submission form or by emailing carnivalofthecats(at)gmail.com .  Carnival hosts will get a copy so they can add you to the week’s Carnival.
We also suggest that you send them to The Modulator to be a part of The Friday Ark (must have a good show for catblogging there), as well as Weekend Cat Blogging and Bad Kitty Cats Festival of Chaos

  6. How many entries can I send?
As many as you want, although it is up to the Carnival huckster for the week to determine how many they will accept or how they will order them.

  7. Are all entries accepted?
Hosts of the Carnival of the Cats are strongly encouraged to incorporate all submissions. However, it is up to the weekly Carnival host to use their best judgment to determine whether an entry is suitable for the Carnival or not. For example, a Goatse site of a man shoving a cat in his ass would not be acceptable.

  8. Is there an archive of Carnival of the Cats?
Links to previous Carnivals are available on the Past Carnivals Page.

  9. How do I volunteer to host the Carnival?
Write us at carnival (at) catblogosphere.com with the location of your weblog and the e-mail address you want to use for submissions, and we will add you to the calendar for a week of your choosing. Once your week is next, post a call for submissions on your weblog and it will be linked from the previous Carnival. When you eventually post your week’s Carnival, be sure to link to the next week’s website and the main Carnival page.

  10. How do I host a Carnival?
Just follow the bouncing ball in the Host a Carnival page. If you have questions, there’s also a Carnival Hosting FAQ.
  11. What about my dog?
Unless you dress your dog like a cat or have your dog eating out of a cat food bowl (or litterbox), that’s not really a cat-related subject. Please seek out the Canines Carnival or The Friday Ark at The Modulator.

  12. I do not have a blog or hosting space. Can I send you a picture of my cat for the Carnival?
The Carnival is for catblogging posts only. Blog posts anywhere on the web are eligible — even Catster diary pages. If you don’t have a blog, it’s easy to get one set up. If you do not have hosting space, there are free space providers out there.
If you need advice on what provider to use and what blog software to use and what computer to use, just start with Blogger or WordPress or LiveJournal.

  13. Why is it that I went to carnivalofthecats.com and ended up at carnival.catblogosphere.com?
We’ve stripped out the Carnival domain and forwarded it to this site. That way you can always use carnivalofthecats.com to find the home of the carnival no matter where it may move.

  14. If I post to the Carnival, do I have to link to it?
Yep, pretty much. There are no Carnival police, but it would be appreciated, especially by the other participants of the Carnival and the host that week

  15. For the love of God, why are you doing this?
It’s fun. We love cats.  It’s nice to see what others blog about, especially their cats. This fairly simple Carnival makes it convenient.

  16. Isn’t Friday Cat Blogging traditionally on Friday?
Yes, but every day is a good day to catblog. And even if you Friday Catblog, that gives you the rest of Friday, all of Saturday, and most of Sunday to submit links to the Carnival of the Cats. See how it works? However, if you can’t wait until Sunday to see a roundup of Friday Catblogging, The Modulator does a Friday Ark every Friday.

  17. Why did my catblogging appear in the Friday Ark but not in the Carnival of the Cats?
Did you submit your catblogging URL to carnivalofthecats (at) gmail.com or The Carnival Submission Form?
    The Modulator
will scour the Blogosphere for Friday Catblogging and other catblogging posts to
collect them in the Friday Ark. That’s called an active roundup in blogging terms. On the other hand, the Carnival of the Cats is a passive roundup, which depends on voluntary submissions.

  18. Isn’t this just a shameless ploy for traffic?
We fully expect people to host the Carnival for the love of cats, not for the expectation of a traffic spike. If you are doing it just for the traffic, we would prefer you not ask to host it.
